TEACHER’S PROTEST IN IRAN

By Hasse-Nima Golkar

Nationwide protest rallies and strikes from most teachers and school officials (employees and retirements) in Iran.

At the urging of the “Teachers’ Union Coordination Council for Employees and Retirees in Iran”, thousands of people demonstrated today, February 19, 2022, in most of the country’s large and small cities because government officials have not met their legitimate demands. These protests have continued so far and will continue despite the threats of the security forces.

Their objections include hypocritical and incomplete approvals of the Islamic Parliament’s resolution about “Ranking of teachers’ salaries based on the quality of their work”, ignoring action for the resolution about “Retirement Assimilation”, “Lack of free education” …, also the demand that all imprisoned teachers must be released.

The proposal on teachers’ salaries had been tabled in the Islamic Parliament ten years ago but has never been implemented so far.

According to social media reports, these peaceful demonstrations have been attacked by the ruling fascist Shia Islamic State in Iran. Several protesters have been arrested and detained.

The subsequent seventh nationwide protest rallies and strikes are scheduled to take place on February 22, 2022.
