An international comrade emailed us the following message covering an important issue:
Two UK journalists, together with 104 members of a persecuted religious minority from seven different countries, have come forward with disturbing accounts of torture and physical abuse by Turkish authorities. Seeking legal asylum at the Turkey-Bulgaria border, the 104, including women and children, faced extreme violence, including severe beatings and gunshots, all caught on live footage. They face imminent deportation to their home countries, where imprisonment or execution looms. The involvement of the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and the criticism of EU policies by Irish MEP Clare Daly highlights the gravity of the situation.
The two UK journalists have been released without charges and provide first-hand accounts of the torture and abuse witnessed.
